Johns Hopkins All Children's Hospital
Its mission
To provide leadership in child health through treatment, education, advocacy and research.
Johns Hopkins treats patients by delivering quality services with compassion and commitment to family-centered care; educating through programs for patients, families, employees and healthcare professionals; advocating as a leader in the promotion of children’s well-being; and researching through the development of, support of and participation in clinical, basic and translational research.
Its story
Johns Hopkins All Children’s Foundation was created in 1985 to support the mission of Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital and to ensure that charitable donations are stewarded directly toward the greatest needs of the hospital and the patients it serves. As a non-profit foundation, it partners with individuals and corporations who share in the vision that all children deserve the best pediatric care available.
The need to expand the foundation’s philanthropic efforts grows greater every year. In a time of health care reform and complex advancements in care, federal funding for research and education continues to decrease. In order for Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital to further its efforts toward building an academic hospital focused on training future physician leaders and staying on the cutting edge of medical advancements, it becomes the foundation’s duty to engage the community in its mission to improve the health of children.
In the words of the hospital, “Our fundraising support, dollar by dollar, makes it possible for patients at Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital to receive the best care possible.”

Stars For Heroes
Its mission
Stars for Heroes promotes the compassion and generosity of Carl’s Jr. and Hardee’s customers, franchisees, and employees by supporting our nation’s active-duty and veteran military members, along with their families. This effort has raised more than $7.5 million since its inception in 2011, and funding supports national charity partners on both the local and regional level, including Stand Up and Play Foundation and USA Cares. Franchisees have also nominated local charities as well, to benefit from up to 50% of the funds raised in their stores.
Its story
Since 2011, the Stars for Heroes program has supported more than 200 U.S. military charities nationwide. Stars for Heroes is made possible through generous contributions by CKE’s franchise community – the Independent Hardee’s Franchise Association (IHFA) and Star Franchise Association (SFA) – along with company employees and loyal customers. Private donations and in-kind support are provided by CKE partners and suppliers, including KDM POP Solutions Group.
K9s For Warriors
Its mission
K9s For Warriors serves veterans as honorably as they served their country. The lifelong program is provided to Warriors at no cost and is designed to deliver maximum benefits with minimum administrative costs.
It is proudly backed by generous supporters who trust the organization to do the right thing with their contributions, and it has received widespread recognition for its stewardship. Impacting the lives of veterans will always be the organization’s greatest reward: Their continued participation in the program is the only validation K9s for Warriors needs.
Its story
Shari Duval founded K9s For Warriors in 2011. Her vision was to train shelter dogs as service dogs and pair them with veterans afflicted with military-connected traumas. When her son Brett–a civilian K9 police bomb dog handler who served in Iraq–came home with PTSD, she realized he was only himself when with his dog. Doctors couldn’t help her son, but she found that a service dog could. Shari found a new mission in life: to put all her time and resources into helping restore the life of her son, and the lives of returning combat veterans through the use of service dogs.
For Shari, it wasn’t only about assisting those who had sacrificed for our freedom anymore – it was about fighting to save their lives. She started the organization with her own money and watched it grow into the largest service dog program for veterans in the United States.
Sadly, we lost Shari in February 2021 after a courageous battle against cancer. She may no longer be with us, but her legacy will shine on with every veteran and rescue dog life saved by K9s For Warriors. The renamed Shari Duval K9s For Warriors National Headquarters in Ponte Vedra, Fla., will remind everyone connected with the organization to maintain her love and passion for its cause.
